Storage Systems Research Center
UC Santa Cruz has developed techniques that can prevent unauthorized users from accessing data stored in petabyte-scale file systems. Our approach guards against both external intruders and internal users who might be able to compromise a few disks. Built on the Ceph infrastructure, our security system is much faster than previous approaches, reducing overall file system performance by only a few percent. The Storage Systems Research Center is part of the Jack Baskin School of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Composed of faculty from the Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering departments, our research focuses on many aspects of file and storage systems. We have active projects in archival storage, scalable distributed indexing \& non-hierarchical file systems, large-scale distributed storage systems, file systems for next-generation storage devices, and data deduplication. We also have particular focus in cross-cutting issues such as security and reliability in file and storage systems. You're encouraged to browse a full list of our projects and explore the research that the SSRC has done since 2001. If you're interested in joining the SSRC, please see this page or contact any of the faculty or students in the SSRC. Prospective graduate studentsApplications for graduate school at UC Santa Cruz are due at the end of each calendar year. We have lots of information available online for prospective graduate students.
